Listening to the People first

This article on LRT is posted on Minister of Transport Malaysia Dato Sri Ong Tee Keat's blog "Courage to Change, Creating New Values". I downloaded and posted here on "My Views" to share with residents who are concerned and would like to know more about the transport system.

"Listening to the People first "

.

I understand that Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), had obtained the approval for the public display of the LRT extension line for Kelana Jaya and Ampang for a period of three months. During this period, Prasana will receive feedback from the people on the projects.

.

The LRT extension is meant to serve the people, and it stands to reason that we must listen to the voice of the people first to ensure the success of the projects. Even before this public display, I had attended a Town Hall meeting at Subang Jaya on the 25th of July 2009 to listen for myself the feedbacks, suggestions and comments from the residents affected by the LRT extension project.

.

Many good points were raised in that session. Concerns raised such as noise pollution, traffic congestion, proximity to houses and facilities for the physically disabled are valid and I am pleased that Prasarana had addressed them in their plans.

.

A study is also ongoing to look into the best option to serve Bandar Sunway and its people, including the sizeable student community there. A summary of the issues raised and their status can be downloaded here .

.

I hope to organise more of such Town Hall meetings to help us craft more friendly and effective policies. It’s also fun to roll up our sleeves to meet the people.

.

For those who missed the Town Hall meeting, it is still not too late to view the display and make your voices count by visiting http://www.dor.gov.my/ or visit the five locations where the display are being held.
