All the rage: Ong (in light blue shirt) joining in the fun to perform the ‘Oppa Gangnam Style’ dance with SS19/1 residents.
THE SS19/1 Residents Asso-ciation (RA) held its “SS19 One Community Carnival”, an annual community carnival which started last year.
The carnival was aimed at creating awareness among families in the neighbourhood to unite as a single community as well as provide business opportunities for the residents to tap into their entrepreneurial skills and showcase their talents by setting up stalls to sell various products.
Kelana Jaya parliamentary coordinator Ong Chong Swen said she was very impressed by the commitment of SS19/1 residents, especially the committee members who had put in a lot of time and effort to organise the event.
“Not all urban dwellers are ‘cold’ to their neighbours; most of the time it is because of long hours of working, privacy and security reasons that people are distant from their neighbours.
“Having RAs help to break the ice and unite the residents,” she said.
Ong, who is also the Kelana Jaya MCA division chief, noted that the SS19/1 RA has been able to organise the second edition of the “SS19 One Community Carnival” due to the trust and teamwork the residents have with the committee.
“The good response speaks louder than words. It show that it is possible to build a village in a town or city,” she said.
The carnival featured stalls selling food and grocery as well as activities.
There was also a ‘Walk for Health’ session, colouring competition, and Best Landscaped House competition.
The neighbourhood children also performed the current dance craze Oppa Gangnam Style to entertain the crowd.
